Dr. Jacobs is board certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS). There are only a handful of surgeons with this specialty training in the entire Bay Area. He is also one of only a few facial plastic surgeons in the United States who received Fellowship training after his residency. This training was under the direction of the late Dr. Larry D. Schoenrock, at the University of California, San Francisco.
In addition to the ABFPRS, Dr. Jacobs is also certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, giving him the distinction of being triple board certified. He has served as Chief of Surgery at Sutter Hospital in Santa Rosa and Chief of Facial Plastic Surgery at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. He maintains hospital privileges at Sutter and Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital hospitals in Santa Rosa and California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, California.
During his six years as a surgical intern and surgical resident, Dr. Jacobs performed heart, vascular and lung surgery, intensive care unit training and otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. During his training in Toronto, Dr. Jacobs was able to perform more rhinoplasty, eyelid and facelift surgeries in training than most American plastic surgeons do in their first 5-10 years in practice. This is due to the fact that in Canada almost all cosmetic facial surgeries are done in the hospitals because they are government subsidized.
Dr. Jacobs attended the University of Western Ontario Medical School from 1979 to 1983. This medical school has been voted the number one medical school in Canada, aka “The Harvard of the North”. His undergraduate work was at the internationally renowned McGill University in Montreal where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors’ of Science degree. Dr. Jacobs also has a Master of Science degree from the Department of Medical Biophysics and Immunology at the premier Cancer Center in Canada, the Ontario Cancer Institute in Toronto.
Dr. Jacobs attends medical conferences 2-3 times a year in facial plastic surgery and has written many articles ranging from cosmetic surgery to radiation physics. He is currently writing articles on rhinoplasty analysis, deep plane face lifts and canthopexy in eyelid surgery. His article “The Four Planes of inclination in Rhinoplasty analysis: A Three Year Study,” was accepted by “The Rhinoplasty Society” and was presented at their annual meeting. Dr. Jacobs has been featured on Anderson Cooper 360-CNN, The Wall Street Journal and has a regularly featured live segment on the San Francisco station, KRON 4. His segment is called “Plastic Surgery Today” and discusses a wide range of topics related to plastic surgery and medicine in general.
His goal is to maintain his status as one of the premier facial plastic surgeons in the world by constantly critiquing his own work in an honest and analytical manner. He believes that beauty of the fine arts can be applied to aesthetics of facial plastic surgery. It is to this end that he continually strives in a singular purpose.
